Blog Tools and Software Reviews

For more than 12 months, I've been visiting, trying out and reviewing several weblog tools - from aggregators (blog readers) to weblog software. With a lot of tools flooding the blogosphere right now, bloggers are bound to favor some over others. These are my top favorites for 2004.
1) Blogger.com (http://blogger.com) This is probably one of the best places to blog even though it may lack certain features and functions. It's great for bloggers of every type. And, it's free! 2) WordPress (http://wordpress.org) I only discovered WordPress early this year. It wasn't love-at-first sight. But, the more I got to know this opensource software, the more I fell in love. Now, I'm a huge fan. 3) Bloglines (http://bloglines.com/) This online aggregator is the best I've seen by far. It's just so easy to get started with Bloglines. And, this tool just keeps getting better! 4) Movable Type (http://movabletype.org/) I've been a strong supporter of Movable Type since its first release. And, even though it went commercial this year, I still can't help but think that it's one of the best weblog software around. Thank goodness it still has a free version! 5) Drupal (http:/drupal.org/) It took me a while to appreciate Drupal as a blogging + content management system. It just seems too technical and clunky at times. Once I've gotten over the initial hurdles, I realized that this is one terrific weblog tool. 6) Multiply (http://multiply.com/) This is probably the only weblog / photo blog tool that I can thoroughly recommend even for the most casual blogger. I know a lot of people who won't touch blogging with a ten foot pole but have become avid Multiply users. 7) w.bloggar Confession: I haven't really tried a lot of blog clients. Probably just 3 or 4 so far. But, out of the ones I've checked out, this is by far my favorite. 8) Buzznet (http://buzznet.com/) Buzznet is one of the tools that made me want a camera phone so badly. I just enjoy photo blogging/mobile blogging using this community-rich service. 9) Flickr (http://flickr.com/) When I first checked out Flickr back in mid-2004, I wasn't impressed. A few of the tools just didn't work for me. A few months passed and now I see just how well developed it has become. I'm definitely watching out for more Flickr stuff in 2005. 10) Mozilla Firefox Yes, this is more of a web browser than a weblog tool. However, a lot of its features and functions just make blogging a lot easier and smoother. So, it's definitely worth mentioning as a top notch weblog tool. |
